Patricia de Nicolaï

France Born 1956 Nicolaï Parfumeur-Créateur

Often associated with a modern interpretation of the Guerlain family style, de Nicolaï is known for elegant, complex compositions such as New York Intense and Vanille Tonka, frequently contrasting rich orientalist notes, patchouli and vanilla with fresher citrus, aromatic or tea facets. Her work under the Parfums de Nicolaï label emphasizes high-quality raw materials and structurally clear, long‑lasting accords over marketing-driven briefs.

About

Patricia de Nicolaï is a French perfumer and great-granddaughter of Guerlain founder Pierre Guerlain, and niece of Jean-Paul Guerlain. Born in Paris, she studied chemistry and then trained in perfumery at ISIPCA in Versailles. With help from Jean-Paul Guerlain she began her career at Florasynth (1982-1984), then moved to Quest International (1984-1989), where she worked on Lancôme Trésor (1990) alongside Sophia Grojsman. In 1989 she founded her own independent house, Parfums de Nicolaï (also known as NICOLAÏ, créateur de parfum), with her husband Jean‑Louis Michau, for which she has created the fragrances and overseen raw material sourcing and concentrate production ever since. In 1988 she received the International Prize for Young Perfumers (best perfume creator) from the French Society of Perfumers, and she later served as president of the Osmothèque perfume archive in Versailles until 2020.
