Alkemia Perfumes

Alkemia Perfumes is an American indie fragrance house founded in 2009 by perfumer Sharra Lamoureaux in western Massachusetts. The brand began as her solution to a personal problem: she loved scent but struggled to find unique, affordable perfumes that were cruelty free and did not trigger her migraines. From the outset, Alkemia has focused on small batch, hand blended perfume oils that emphasize both creative storytelling and ingredient safety.

Alkemia’s compositions are built from natural essences, ethically produced synthetics, and lab created aroma molecules, deliberately excluding phthalates, DPG, parabens, silicones, and other common fillers. The line is fully vegan and marketed as free from animal testing and animal derived materials. Their catalog has grown to hundreds of scents across several collections, including The Scented Verses and seasonal capsules, with releases spanning from their first perfumes in 2009 to recent launches documented in external databases and retail listings.

The brand’s aesthetic leans toward highly narrative, thematic fragrances, often exploring literary motifs, nature, sensuality, and occult or ritual imagery. Reviewers and fans frequently highlight the variety of unusual accords, the way many scents evolve on skin, and the concentration of the oils, which can feel more intense than typical alcohol based eau de parfums.
