About

Resins is a group note for the gums and balsams a tree bleeds when it is cut. It is what a brand prints when the incense material is a blend rather than a named one, and it covers frankincense, benzoin, labdanum and myrrh alongside the amber accords built to stand in for them.

Scent Profile

Amber and resin above everything, warm and slightly sticky. Sweet balsamic depth underneath it, with an animal warmth and a leathery edge from labdanum, a dry powdery finish, and smoke from the frankincense side.

No single source. Most are tree exudates; ambergris and ambroxan are here because the smell agrees even though the source does not.

Usage in Perfumery

A resinous base is what gives an oriental its weight and an incense composition its whole subject. It lasts, it fixes lighter materials in place, and it is the oldest use of scent there is - the word perfume means through smoke.
