Marni is an Italian luxury fashion brand founded in Milan in 1994 by Swiss-born designer Consuelo Castiglioni, initially as an offshoot of her husband Gianni Castiglioni’s fur company Ciwi Furs. The label grew from an experimental fur collection into a full ready-to-wear house noted for its distinctive use of print, color and texture, and became an independent brand produced by the family firm by 1999.
Marni entered perfumery with its first fragrance, Marni eau de parfum, launched in 2012 and unveiled to the wider market in early 2013 in partnership with Estée Lauder’s Aramis and Designer Fragrances division. The scent was composed by perfumer Daniela Andrier in collaboration with Consuelo Castiglioni and positioned as a reflection of the brand’s off-beat sophistication. Subsequent fragrances followed in the mid 2010s, building a compact line that mirrors the fashion house’s emphasis on unusual contrasts.
In 2013 Marni joined the Italian fashion group OTB, which owns labels such as Diesel and Maison Margiela, integrating the brand into a broader luxury portfolio while maintaining its separate identity. Over time, creative leadership shifted from Consuelo Castiglioni to Francesco Risso in 2016 and later to Meryll Rogge in 2025, keeping the core visual language of bold patterns and color clashes while updating it for new collections.
Marni’s fragrances tend to echo the clothing line’s aesthetic: structured yet playful compositions, unexpected note pairings, and a preference for characterful woods and spices over conventional mass-market sweetness.
