About

Ambrarome is a classic animalic-amber base created by Synarome to reproduce and amplify the effect of natural ambergris. It combines powerful ambergris-like nuances with labdanum sweetness, leathery facets and subtle marine, mineral and smoky tones.[3][4][5][7] Used as a distinct note in modern perfumery, it lends deep, long-lasting warmth and animalic complexity to the base of a fragrance.[5][6][9]

Scent Profile

Olfactively, Ambrarome presents a warm, resinous and slightly sweet amber character with pronounced animalic and leathery facets.[2][3][4][5][7] Perfumery sources describe marine and mineral nuances reminiscent of ambergris, colored by balsamic, tarry, peppery and tobacco-like undertones, sometimes with hints of coffee.[3][4][6][7] It is dense and long-lasting on skin, evolving slowly into a velvety, slightly powdery, sweet-spicy trail rather than sharp projection.[2]

Origin

Ambrarome is a proprietary perfumery base developed by Synarome, historically one of the earliest specialty products designed as a replacement for natural ambergris.[4][5] Chemically, it consists primarily of ethyl esters of labdanum gum extract (labdanum gum extract ethyl ester, CAS 73138-66-6), combining refined labdanum fractions with additional components to enhance ambergris and animalic effects.[7][10] Unlike natural ambergris from sperm whales, Ambrarome is fully manufactured, offering a more consistent, regulatory-compliant alternative for use in fine fragrance and other scented products.[4][5][7]

Usage in Perfumery

Perfumers typically use Ambrarome as a base note at low dosages, both for its strong fixative power and its ability to add animalic depth, amber warmth and leathered richness to a composition.[3][4][5][7] It works particularly well in ambery-oriental, chypre and leather fragrances, and can also lend juiciness and depth to red or exotic fruit accords.[4][5] Because of its intensity and presence of potent animalic facets, it is usually used in trace amounts up to a few percent of the formula, carefully balanced with resins, woods, vanillic notes or musks.[3][4][5]
