About
Bleeding heart is the pendant spring flower of Lamprocapnos spectabilis, a garden perennial. No essential oil, absolute or resinoid is sold under this name. The note is a reconstruction, and the scent it reconstructs is faint and disputed.
Scent Profile
Floral leads and it is the only claim any source makes: 'a mild, sweet fragrance'. The number is held down deliberately. That claim reaches us twice but it is one claim, syndicated word for word by University of Vermont Extension and the Bennington Banner, and a third source contradicts it. Go Botany (Native Plant Trust) says the plant 'does not have much of a smell'. Sweet_vanillic is the 'sweet' half of the one claim and nothing more. Honeyed, green and powdery sit below because no source names any of them. They are the ordinary background of a fresh garden petal, carried at trace weight with wide spreads rather than dropped to zero, because nobody stated their absence either. Nothing here supports a sharp or heady reading.

Lamprocapnos spectabilis (formerly Dicentra spectabilis), a perennial of eastern Asia grown across temperate gardens. The flower is used as a name and an image. No extract of it reaches perfumery.
