Exotic citrus fruits is a Parfumo category note for the citrus outside the Mediterranean set, yuzu and kumquat and their kin, rather than for one fruit. Trade profiles of those fruits agree on the shape: bright and tangy like any citrus, with a floral and herbaceous edge that lemon and orange do not have.

Scent Profile

Citrus leads and both trade sources say so outright. Yuzu's essence "exudes dominant citrus notes", and kumquat brings "lively and sparkling citrus accords". Green and aromatic_herbal carry the one thing both sources name as the exotic part: "slightly floral and herbaceous facets" for kumquat, "slightly floral and herbaceous nuances" for yuzu. Both sit under the published yuzu note's green and aromatic_herbal, because a class term is vaguer than any fruit inside it. Fruity is the word in the note's own name and the sweet flesh of a kumquat, which is eaten whole. Floral is the other half of that shared phrase, plus yuzu's "delicate hints of vanilla or white flowers", which also sets sweet_vanillic. Sour is "tangy", used by both sources. Tropical rests on one perfume, Tropical Sun, where the note tops coconut and passion fruit. It is low because one pyramid is not a smell. Aldehydic is not asserted, it is inherited. The published citrus note carries for peel sparkle and no source here claims exotic citrus lacks it.

Origin

Not a single material. Parfumo files the term under their broader citrus fruits node and gives no odour prose of its own, only that 2 perfumes carry it and that it ran from 2008 to 2019. The fruits usually meant are Asian in origin. Bon Parfumeur's house profiles of two of them, kumquat and yuzu, are the olfactive evidence behind this vector.

Usage in Perfumery

Thin and dated. Parfumo names 2 perfumes. In Patio Flor de Pimienta it stands beside bergamot as a separate top note, which is a house treating it as something bergamot is not. In Ulric de Varens Tropical Sun it is the whole top, over coconut, rose, violet and passion fruit.
