Greenheart Wood
Note Profile
About
Greenheart is a real Guyanese timber, Chlorocardium rodiei, and the timber trade says the seasoned wood has little to no smell. Only the freshly cut green wood is aromatic. Whatever is in the bottle is therefore more concentrated than sawn lumber, and no supplier sheet exists for it. It reads as a quiet dry wood with a green, sap-cut edge. The vector is deliberately low and wide.
Scent Profile
Dry_woody leads and is capped low on purpose. The referent is timber and the note is placed as wood, but the one primary source on this species says the dried wood has little to no characteristic odour. That puts it under amaranth-wood 0.55 and near arbutus-wood 0.38, the two other notes scored against a stated near-absence of smell. Green is the one positive olfactive claim in the evidence: the same source says the freshly cut green wood is aromatic, and green is the state in which anyone smells it. It is also what the name records. Everything below 0.25 comes from company rather than from a description of the material, and is scored as trace for that reason. Earthy, amber_resinous, mossy_chypre and smoky reflect only that the note is always formulated among resins, conifers and ouds. Those are the neighbours' smells, not proof of this one, and a reviewer with a supplier sheet should expect to move them.
ScentWheel
Read off the wheel, not a label applied to the note.
Origin
Chlorocardium rodiei, also called Demerara greenheart, from Guyana. The Wood Database states it plainly: 'Freshly cut green wood can have an aromatic scent, though the dried wood has little to no characteristic odor.' It is a construction and marine timber, prized for density and rot resistance, not an aromatic species. No supplier data sheet, no GC analysis and no trade material sold as greenheart wood could be found.
Usage in Perfumery
2 Parfumo placements across 2 brands. Parfumo tracks the note in 44 perfumes from 2015 to 2026 and says it occurs throughout the whole fragrance rather than in one position. Every attestation reachable comes from one perfumer, Abdullah Dickman of Mellifluence, who places it beside cedar, spruce, pine, fir balsam, several ouds, vetiver and myrrh, and whose retailer says it 'harmonizes with the vetiver and wild Aceh oud'.
