Note Profile
Pandanus, often referred to as pandan, has a distinctive green aroma with facets reminiscent of freshly cut grass, basmati rice, and a hint of coconut. Its scent is both leafy and slightly creamy, with subtle nutty undertones that can evoke a tropical atmosphere. The note evolves from a sharp green opening to a softer, more gourmand drydown.
Pandanus is derived from the leaves of the Pandanus amaryllifolius plant, native to Southeast Asia. The leaves are typically harvested and their aromatic compounds are extracted through solvent extraction or infusion, as distillation is less effective for this material.
Perfumers use pandanus primarily as a heart note to impart a unique green-gourmand character to compositions. It blends well with other green notes, coconut, vanilla, and florals, and is valued for adding depth and an exotic nuance to both niche and modern gourmand fragrances.
