Pharaone is a Givaudan captive with a green-fruity smell, closest to pineapple. It is a top-note booster: extremely powerful, extremely diffusive, and used in small amounts to put lift and freshness on an accord. Both trade sources give it the same narrow descriptor set and neither gives it any floral, woody or musky character at all.

Scent Profile

Green leads because ScenTree files the material under Green first and calls its whole job 'a green booster from the top note'. It is a crisp cut-stem green, not a mossy or herbal one. Tropical is the identity claim both sources make independently: ScenTree says 'much fruitier smell, close to pineapple' and Perfumer's Apprentice lists 'Pineapple' by name in its odour description. Fruity sits just under it because Perfumer's Apprentice files the material under the Fruity family, so the fruit is not only the pineapple. Aromatic_herbal is held low on purpose: 'Aromatic' appears once, in a four-word list, with nothing behind it. Nothing else is scored. Neither source gives this molecule a floral, woody, musky or animalic facet, and its ionone and damascone relatives are not evidence about it, because ScenTree says in as many words that it breaks from them on smell.

Origin

A single synthetic molecule, 2-cyclohexyl-1,6-heptadien-3-one, CAS 313973-37-4, held in this repository as material `1-6-heptadien-3-one-2-cyclohexyl`. It is a constitutional isomer of alpha-ionone, beta-ionone, alpha-damascone and beta-damascone, but it does not smell like that family. ScenTree is explicit: it 'has a much fruitier smell, close to pineapple'. It does not occur in nature, so there is no plant extraction of it. Usually sold at 10 per cent in DPG.

Usage in Perfumery

A green booster in the top note with a fruity effect, at low dosage. It gives freshness and lift to top and heart, and both sources say it suits any accord type rather than one family. ScenTree names one specific pairing: nine parts Stemone to one part Pharaone makes a tomato-leaf effect.
