Shisolia
Note Profile
About
Green apple and melon, leafy and bright
Scent Profile
Shisolia smells green and leafy first, bright and fresh. A crisp fruitiness follows, close to green apple and melon. A faint floral, violet-like softness sits behind it, and some noses find a light cinnamic, spicy edge.

Origin
Shisolia is a Givaudan captive molecule, 4-vinylcyclohex-1-enecarbaldehyde (C9H12O, CAS 1049017-68-6, PubChem CID 89714995). Givaudan registered the name as a trademark in 2013, and its patent US 8,304,380 makes it from butadiene, crotonaldehyde and formaldehyde. The name points to shiso leaf, but it is not perillaldehyde, the molecule that gives shiso its smell. Flavour listings (FEMA 4783) treat the same CAS as a mixture with the 1-vinyl isomer.
Usage in Perfumery
Givaudan files it as a green material for the top of a fragrance. Its patents use it at 0.15% to 0.5% in model perfumes. The one listed perfume, Versace pour Femme Dylan Blue (2017), sets it beside Granny Smith apple and blackcurrant in the top notes.
