About
Pineappleweed is a small rayless daisy that smells of pineapple when you crush it. The fruit note is strong enough that foragers use it to confirm the identification in the field. Under the fruit sits the herbal smell of its own family.
Scent Profile
Fruity leads and every source fetched agrees on it - 'a sweet, fruity aroma reminiscent of pineapple'. Tropical is the second facet and is the same observation sharpened: the fruit named is specifically pineapple, not a generic sweetness, and five sources use that word. Origin
Matricaria discoidea, a low weed of paths and trampled ground across the northern hemisphere. Wikipedia and the Royal Horticultural Society both record the scent as released on crushing, and both give part-specific wording: the flowerheads are pineapple-scented and the dissected leaves are sweet-scented. Forager Chef confirms independently that flowers, leaves and stems all carry it and that the dome-shaped flowerheads are the most potent part.
