Pineappleweed smells sweet and fruity, close to pineapple, strong enough that crushing the plant confirms what it is. Underneath sits an aromatic, herbal note close to chamomile, the rest of the daisy family showing through. Origin
Matricaria discoidea, a low weed of paths and trampled ground across the northern hemisphere. Wikipedia and the Royal Horticultural Society both record the scent as released on crushing, and both give part-specific wording: the flowerheads are pineapple-scented and the dissected leaves are sweet-scented. Forager Chef confirms independently that flowers, leaves and stems all carry it and that the dome-shaped flowerheads are the most potent part.
