Schisandra
Note Profile
About
Schisandra berries, dried berries extracted with carbon dioxide to an aromatic oil.
Scent Profile
Schisandra smells of dried plums and goji berries, warm and softly sweet rather than bright. A tart, plummy sourness runs through the fruit, with a peppery, gently warm spice in the heart. It dries down woody and balsamic, a little resinous and smoky, like a forest floor. A faint bitter, salty edge sits under it.

ScentArt
Origin
Schisandra chinensis, the five-flavour berry. The dried berries are extracted with CO2. Hermitage Oils sells a CO2 of the related S. sphenanthera. The extract is uncommon in perfumery.
Usage in Perfumery
A quiet blender, not a loud note. Hermitage Oils calls it weak but useful for its complexity. Fraterworks calls it an explorer's material. Perfumes that name it likely build a dried-fruit and spice accord around it.
