Surf wax is a fantasy accord, not a material. It is the smell of a bar of surfboard wax rubbed on a board that has been in the sea: coconut and paraffin first, warm from the sun, with dried salt spray on the rails behind it. Both sources call it warmer and more specific than a generic marine note.

Scent Profile

Waxy_fatty now leads, and it is the note's own name: both sources open on wax. Premiere Peau's summary line is 'Waxy-coconut with a clean, cold-water edge', and it builds the accord from paraffin wax (clean, slightly petroleum-adjacent) and beeswax. Tropical sits beside it as the coconut half of that same compound, with Mimya adding pineapple and mango nectar. Lactonic is the creamy part of the coconut, scored separately because the published coconut note carries lactonic and the creaminess here is real but thinner. Sweet_vanillic comes down from: Mimya's 'pure vanilla sugar' stands, but the faint sweetness trade copy gives refined paraffin now scores as wax rather than as sugar. Mineral and aquatic_ozonic are the same thing seen twice: Premiere Peau says the dried salt spray 'adds a mineral, marine edge' and separately that the ocean context contributes salt, mineral and ozonic elements. Honeyed is the warm side of the beeswax both sources name and neither promotes to the lead; the wax body of it now sits in waxy_fatty. Fruity is the honeydew, apple and orange that Mimya says commercial wax bars are scented with. Clean_musk falls from, because the dry-down quote it rests on is 'warm, waxy, musky skin quality' and the waxy third of that has moved. Under the naming line, amber_resinous for the 'subtle resinous warmth', creamy_woody and nutty for the coconut's drier side.

Origin

There is no raw material behind this term. One source lists CAS number, molecular formula and extraction method as not applicable, which settles it. Actual surfboard wax is paraffin or beeswax with coconut oil or coconut fragrance added, and the ocean supplies the salt. Perfumers build the accord from coconut lactones, a waxy paraffinic base, vanilla, and a mineral-marine element.

Usage in Perfumery

A heart note. It carries a coastal setting without the generic aquatic-fresh approach of mainstream marine fragrances, so it is used where a composition wants beach and sunlight rather than open water. It sits under tropical fruit tops and over musk and vanilla bases.
