Blossom Perfumery 440 Velvet Orchid is an Eau de Parfum. 440 Velvet Orchid opens with Bergamot, Mandarin, Honey, and Rum, settles into a heart of Hyacinth, Orange Blossom, Rose, and Jasmine, and dries down to a base of Suede, Amber, Sandalwood, and Vanilla. Blossom Perfumery's 440 Velvet Orchid carries an Acquired verdict, a floral-led wear.

440 chases Tom Ford's Velvet Orchid closely - honeyed rum and mandarin up top, a huge black orchid and white-floral heart, vanilla and suede underneath. It opens sweeter and simpler than the original's dense, layered bouquet, and thins out much sooner, but the boozy-floral-vanilla character is a fair likeness for the price.

About

440 draws directly from Tom Ford's Velvet Orchid, opening with the same warm, boozy honey-rum-mandarin combination before moving into a dense floral heart of black orchid, jasmine, hyacinth and orange blossom. The base settles into vanilla, suede and sandalwood for a soft, sweet finish. Tom Ford's original layers its florals with far more nuance and holds its rich, almost gourmand character for hours; this version reads a touch flatter and sweeter in the opening, and the trail fades noticeably faster. It's still a reasonable evening option for anyone drawn to the opulent, orchid-and-honey idea without the designer price, just don't expect the same longevity or complexity.
