Diesel Fuel for Life Femme is an Eau de Parfum launched in 2007. Fuel for Life Femme opens with Mandarin, Pink Pepper, and Blackcurrant, settles into a heart of Jasmine and Nutmeg, and dries down to a base of Musk, Vetiver, and Patchouli. Diesel's Fuel for Life Femme carries a Favourite verdict, a patchouli-led wear.

A patchouli-led chypre floral in a fishnet stocking. Mandarin and pink pepper give it a bright, peppery opening, but the drydown is where it lives - woody patchouli with a heady jasmine running through.

When To Wear

Best Seasons

Best For:
Fall Winter
Also Works:
Spring

A patchouli and vetiver base gives it real weight, which reads best in cool weather. The mandarin and pink pepper opening keeps it viable in spring but it becomes dense and heady in summer.

Best Occasions

Best For:
Date Casual
Also Works:
Office Formal

Moderate projection and a woody, slightly edgy character make it a good everyday autumn scent. The patchouli weight is a little assertive for conservative formal settings.

About

Fuel for Life Femme launched in 2007 alongside its masculine counterpart, and the packaging did as much work as the juice: a squat flacon sleeved in a cream lace stocking, gold cap, and the words "use with caution" printed on the glass. It is unmistakably of its moment, and unmistakably Diesel. The composition came from a notably strong team - Annick Menardo, Thierry Wasser and Jacques Cavallier Belletrud - and the structure is tighter than the styling suggests. Mandarin opens it with a juicy citrus lift, immediately spiked with pink pepper that gives the first few minutes a slightly powdery, peppery fizz. Some wearers find that opening a touch synthetic; it passes quickly. The heart is jasmine, sweet and clear, with nutmeg threaded through it. It is a heady, night-blooming sort of jasmine rather than a delicate one, and the spice keeps it from turning soapy. A number of listings also place blackcurrant here, which fits the tart fruity edge many people pick up. The base is the reason to own it. Patchouli dominates - woody and clean rather than dirty or headshop - with vetiver adding a dry earthiness and musk softening the finish. It is genuinely chypre-adjacent, which was already becoming rare in mainstream releases by 2007. Moderate to good longevity, moderate sillage. An autumn daytime scent more than an evening one, and a solid, characterful choice at its current discounted price.
