Dreamland

Dreamland takes its name from the old seaside amusement park in Margate, and this Parfum is built around a rose. Dulcie, formerly Haeckels, writes of the romance of rose and the smokiness of leather and wood, a floral scent meant for two. The first charred wood for it was collected in February 2014. The rose smells natural: powdery and creamy rather than sweet, not sharp, not watery or jammy. Geranium and smoke give it a drier, almost barbershop edge, and over a few hours the rose settles slowly into vetiver without a break. Leather and amber sit underneath. Some find it so full-bodied that it stops reading as a rose perfume at all and becomes a round, bittersweet scent with a hint of bitter citrus. Performance is good: around twelve hours on some skin, with a moderate to good trail and little change as it dries. That can feel simple or comforting. Not every nose agrees, and a few find the powder old-fashioned. It wears best in spring, then autumn, by day or in the evening. It suits anyone who loves roses but wants one that smells like the plant, with smoke and leather underneath.
