Ella K Parfums Mélodie de l'Altaï is an Eau de Parfum. Mélodie de l'Altaï opens with Whisky, Saffron, and Incense, settles into a heart of Leather, Cedar, Jasmine, and Styrax, and dries down to a base of Vetiver, Patchouli, Tonka Bean, and Benzoin. Ella K Parfums's Mélodie de l'Altaï carries an Acquired verdict, a leather-led wear.

A warm, faintly animalic leather built on saffron, whisky and incense. Sonia Constant's Altaï mountains fantasy is smoky and sweet at once, closer to fur and resin than to a tannery.

When To Wear

Best Seasons

Best For:
Fall Winter

Saffron, leather, incense and a resinous benzoin-tonka base make this a cold-weather composition. In heat the animalic and boozy facets amplify and become overpowering.

Best Occasions

Best For:
Date Formal

A smoky, faintly animalic leather is a poor fit for shared workspaces but works well for evenings and dressed-up occasions where its warmth and intimacy are an asset.

About

Ella K Parfums works in travel postcards, and Mélodie de l'Altaï is its most physical one. The reference point is the Altaï range on the Kazakh borderlands with China and Mongolia - open steppe, an eagle dropping on its prey, horses at speed. Perfumer Sonia Constant, who founded the house, has said she wanted something evoking fur, and the animal instinct it implies. The opening announces the intent immediately. Saffron arrives leathery and slightly medicinal, a whisky note adds boozy warmth with a sharp alcoholic edge, and incense threads smoke through both. It is a dense, unusual start with no citrus softening at all. The heart is where the fur idea takes shape. Leather is the spine, but it is a soft, suede-like leather rather than a raw birch-tar one. Arabian jasmine adds an indolic floral richness that reads almost skin-like, styrax brings a balsamic, faintly burnt sweetness, and cedarwood keeps a dry structure beneath. The base pushes it further into comfort than the opening suggests: patchouli and vetiver ground it, while benzoin and tonka bean layer on a resinous, vanillic sweetness that softens the smoke considerably. Several wearers read the drydown as an amber-vanilla gourmand with leather rather than a leather scent proper. Performance is good without being overwhelming, and the sillage is moderate. It is a cold-weather, evening fragrance, genuinely unisex, and priced as full niche.
