Kerosene Fields of Rubus is an Eau de Parfum launched in 2012, created by John Pegg. Kerosene's Fields of Rubus carries a Statement verdict, a fruity-led wear.

This is a seriously divisive patchouli beast, love it or hate it. It's an earthy, dark, almost gothic take on fruity notes, so don't expect a sugar rush. Not for the faint of heart, but utterly compelling if it clicks with your chemistry.

Top, heart and base are the brand's own listing, not a timing claim - the industry classifies a note by its character as much as by how fast it fades. Each curve here is modelled from that material's own volatility, so groups can overlap when a house lists long-lasting materials in its heart.

Casual

Its moderate sillage and strong, distinctive character make it a bit much for a formal office environment, though it would shine on a date or for a casual outing where you want to make a statement. The rich, dark notes aren't suited for sport, but could work for a unique formal event.

Declarable allergens

We derive these from the materials behind this fragrance's notes, not from the bottle. Each one is likely, not confirmed. The list is partial - the box can name others.

Declarable under EU Annex III

  • Sandalwood Santalol from Sandalwood
  • Synthetic musk Hexamethylindanopyran from Musk

About

Fields of Rubus opens with a blast of earthy, damp patchouli, almost like rich, dark soil after a rain, immediately joined by a jammy, dark raspberry and plum. The initial fruitiness isn't bright or sweet, but deep and stewed, quickly shadowed by a smoky, almost leathery tobacco. As it settles, creamy vanilla and warm cedar emerge, softening the edges but maintaining a substantial, woody presence. The musk in the dry down adds an animalic depth, grounding the intense patchouli and subtle fruits in a complex, intriguing finish.
