Les Eaux Primordiales Vanille Supermassive is an Eau de Parfum launched in 2023, created by Arnaud Poulain. Vanille Supermassive opens with Bergamot and Elemi, settles into a heart of Cinnamon, Labdanum, and Canadian Fir Balsam, and dries down to a base of Musk, Patchouli, Oakmoss, and Vanilla. Les Eaux Primordiales's Vanille Supermassive carries a Statement verdict, a musk-led wear.

This 'Supermassive' vanilla is anything but, stirring up a right old debate. Some find it a complex, resinous stunner, others reckon it's a weak, overpriced whiff of nothing much at all, or worse - 'dog food'. Expect polarised opinions.

Top, heart and base are the brand's own listing, not a timing claim - the industry classifies a note by its character as much as by how fast it fades. Each curve here is modelled from that material's own volatility, so groups can overlap when a house lists long-lasting materials in its heart.

When To Wear

Best Seasons

Best For:
Spring Fall Winter

Versatile across every season - no clear seasonal preference from wearers.

Best Occasions

Best For:
Date Formal
Also Works:
Casual

Its moderate projection and generally darker, resinous profile make it suitable for dates and formal events, where its scent can be appreciated up close. It's too heavy and potentially divisive for the office, and certainly not for active wear.

Declarable allergens

We derive these from the materials behind this fragrance's notes, not from the bottle. Each one is likely, not confirmed. The list is partial - the box can name others.

In standard patch-test panels

Other declarable allergens

  • Bergamot Citrus Aurantium Bergamia Peel Oil from Bergamot
  • Synthetic musk Hexamethylindanopyran from Musk
  • Vanillin from Vanilla

The large name is the everyday one. The small name is the INCI form on the box, so you can compare the two. Reactions differ between people. A patch-test panel is not a ranking of risk. How we derive this

About

Opens with a fleeting zing of bergamot and the clean, balsamic brightness of elemi before settling into a spicy, resinous heart of warm cinnamon, labdanum, and piney fir. The dry down is a murky blend of earthy patchouli, deep vanilla, and a hint of sticky caramel, all underpinned by an ambroxan hum and musky oakmoss. It's a dark, woody take on vanilla, far from gourmand.
