Match Fragrances WHY is an Eau de Parfum. WHY opens with Bergamot, Ginger, Apple, and Sage, settles into a heart of Lavender, Geranium, and Juniper, and dries down to a base of Cedar, Vetiver, Tonka Bean, and Ambroxan. Match Fragrances's WHY carries a Favourite verdict, a aromatic-led wear.

Match Fragrances' interpretation of YSL's Y Eau de Parfum (2018) - the Dominique Ropion, Calice Becker and Anne Flipo apple-sage-ambroxan masculine that became YSL's modern white-shirt signature, here translated into an apple-ginger opening over geranium and a ambroxan-cedar close. Honest dupe-fidelity for daytime and date wear at a fraction of the designer price.

About

Inspired by YSL Y is Match Fragrances' budget reading of YSL's 2018 Y Eau de Parfum, the Dominique Ropion, Calice Becker and Anne Flipo apple-sage-ambroxan composition that became YSL's modern masculine flagship. Match's pyramid mirrors the original community pyramid: apple, ginger, bergamot and sage on top, a geranium-juniper-lavender heart, and an ambroxan-cedar-vetiver-tonka-olibanum close. The first hour is the strongest match: apple and ginger land bright with bergamot adding the lift and sage the green-aromatic edge, and the trademark fresh-aromatic-fruity impression arriving within minutes. By the heart the geranium adds the rose-green floral edge with juniper and lavender building the aromatic backbone. The dry-down trades on ambroxan as the dominant anchor - the polished modern amber-woody that defines Y EDP - with cedar, vetiver, tonka and olibanum rounding the close. Performance is the budget compromise: four to six hours of moderate sillage. The character is fresh-aromatic-amber masculine, with spring through autumn the natural seasons and casual, office, and date the natural settings. The honest caveat: at fifty millilitres for under thirty pounds, the YSL's polished ambroxan depth is softened here. Sits next to other budget aromatic-ambroxan dupes in the dupe-house neighbourhood, while the original sits with Dior Sauvage, Bleu de Chanel, and the broader designer-masculine modern ambroxan conversation.
