Coffee Flower opens spiced and rosy, saffron and black pepper sharpening a velvety may rose, the dusty, slightly dirty character that makes Cafe Rose so distinctive. The heart is all rose: lush Turkish and Bulgarian rose entwined with a bitter, roasted coffee note that keeps it from going pretty, lending an unconventional, grown-up edge. The drydown settles into incense, amber, sandalwood and patchouli, adding a warm, smoky-woody base. Against Tom Ford's Cafe Rose, this clone keeps the spiced-rose-and-coffee idea intact but renders the incense and patchouli less smouldering and the blend a touch more linear, losing some of the original's dusky depth. Cafe Rose is a moderate-to-strong performer; the dupe steps it down to gentle projection and a few hours of rich rose before settling skin-close. As an affordable, sophisticated dark-rose scent for cooler-weather evenings, it delivers the seductive mood well.
