Courageous Ink opens with the same hook that made Only The Brave Tattoo memorable: a cool, juicy apple that feels fresh and a little addictive. The heart turns spicy and aromatic, with sage and bourbon pepper adding a dry, masculine warmth. The drydown is where the original earns its mystique - amber wood, benzoin, tobacco and patchouli build a smoky, resinous base - and Perfume Parlour gets most of the way there, if a shade softer and sweeter. Compared to the Diesel, this version dials the apple sweetness up and the dark tobacco-patchouli grit down, so it reads cleaner and more crowd-pleasing but less brooding. Projection is decent in the first hours before settling close to the skin, with longevity that is good rather than the original's all-day persistence.
