Arabians opens with a strike of saffron and bergamot, mirroring the rich, spicy attention-grab that made Montale's Arabians Tonka a cult favourite. The heart pairs agarwood oud with Bulgarian rose, echoing the original's opulent oud-rose combination, though the oud here comes across more synthetic and less resinous than Montale's raw material. The base leans on tonka bean, sugar cane, amber, white musk and oakmoss for a sweet, warm dry-down that stays close to the original's gourmand-oriental direction. Where Montale built its reputation on genuinely powerhouse performance - reviewers routinely describe Arabians Tonka as clearing a room and lasting well past twelve hours - this version trades that intensity for a gentler, more wearable projection that fades noticeably sooner. It still delivers a recognisably bold, sweet oud composition suited to date nights, evenings out and cold-weather wear, just without the room-filling sillage that defines the designer original.
