Scentleys Cairo is an Eau de Parfum. Cairo opens with Rose, Pepper, and Saffron, settles into a heart of Amber, Vanilla, and Labdanum, and dries down to a base of Cedar, Sandalwood, and Patchouli. Scentleys's Cairo carries a Statement verdict, a amber-led wear.

Scentleys' take on Penhaligon's Cairo (2019) - the spicy rose-oud oriental by Christophe Raynaud, rendered here as a simpler rose-amber blend with less of the original's shape-shifting complexity.

About

Cairo is Scentleys' interpretation of Penhaligon's Cairo, a spicy rose-oud oriental built on Damask rose and saffron over a labdanum-patchouli-sandalwood base. The dupe opens on a peppery rose accord, moves into a warm, ambery heart, and closes on a soft woody-patchouli base standing in for the original's dense oud-like resin work. Where Penhaligon's Cairo shifts character with humidity and skin chemistry - reading leathery, minty or smoky depending on the day - Scentleys' version stays flatter and more linear: rose and amber up front, patchouli-wood underneath, without the original's incense-and-oud complexity. The saffron spice is present but softer, and the vanilla warmth arrives earlier and more directly. Performance sits at four to six hours of close sillage, well short of Cairo's genuinely long-wearing original. This is a fair rose-oriental for anyone curious about Cairo's DNA without committing to the niche price, best worn on cooler days where the rose-amber-spice combination reads warm rather than sharp. Season is autumn through winter; occasions lean casual and date wear.
