Ardent Cherry

Ardent Cherry is one of the premium-tier compositions in Sentier's 2024 collection, sitting alongside Cuir de Printemps, Dunes of Maghrib, Galerie and Tobacco Orangerie at the £195 / 50ml mark. The composition opens with ginger and nutmeg lifting cherry blossom, a sparkling kitchen-spice introduction that primes the palate for the heart. Within the first hour the heart unfolds: black cherry takes centre, intertwined with cistus to give a resinous, slightly liqueur-like density that the brand describes as 'liquorous warmth'. The base is a classic gourmand-niche close - incense, amber and sandalwood building a smoky-resinous-creamy foundation that frames rather than competes with the cherry. The character sits firmly in the niche cherry-and-resin register that Tom Ford Lost Cherry, Kilian Black Phantom, Initio Atomic Rose and Killian Roses on Ice have made familiar, but Sentier prices it below all of them and leans more toward the dark/incense side than the sticky-syrup side. Performance reads as a typical luxury EDP - good projection in the first two hours, then settling to a six-to-eight-hour skin-presence with the resin-amber base persisting longest. The composition is genderless by design (Sentier's whole house ethos is the genderless 'Perfume Wardrobe'). Best worn in autumn and winter for the cherry-incense-amber synergy; works for date and formal evening, holds up in casual-evening contexts but sits awkwardly in office or sport. For the wearer drawn to the niche cherry register but balking at the £200+ Tom Ford / Kilian opening prices, this is a credible alternative anchored by the same compositional moves at a (modestly) lower bar.
