The Essence Vault's No. 461 - Intense is positioned as the higher-concentration answer to Maison Francis Kurkdjian's Baccarat Rouge 540 Extrait de Parfum, which itself takes the EDP's saffron-jasmine-ambergris signature and pushes it into darker, resinous territory with fir balsam and a heavier ambroxan dose. This dupe does dial up the saffron and jasmine top notes and thickens the cedar-amberwood base compared to its own EDP sibling, and on first application the difference is genuinely noticeable - it's louder, sweeter, and more insistent. Where it falls short of the real Extrait is texture and progression: the original's intensified base builds a smoky, resinous depth that unfolds gradually over many hours, while No. 461 - Intense mostly just turns up the volume on the same ambroxan-musk accord rather than adding new facets, so it reads as more concentrated but not more complex. The performance boost over the standard No. 461 is real - a few extra hours of wear - but it still falls well short of the Extrait's legendary all-day persistence. Worth the small upcharge over the base version if longevity matters, but it's an amplified copy rather than a true match for the Extrait's added sophistication.
