The Essence Vault's No. 429 targets Le Classique, Jean Paul Gaultier's instantly recognisable amber floral built on luminous orange blossom and spicy ginger over a warm vanilla base. The opening is close, blending bright orange blossom and warming ginger with a touch of star anise in a way that reads unmistakably as the genuine article's signature accord. Where the two differ is in the middle: Gaultier's original uses a genuinely powdery iris-jasmine heart to bridge the spicy citrus opening into the warm amber-vanilla base, giving the whole composition a soft, sophisticated roundness that ages gracefully over several hours. No. 429 moves through that transition more quickly, with a lighter iris presence, landing in the vanilla-amber base sooner and with less powdery complexity along the way. It still delivers a genuinely bold, warm, feminine amber floral that performs well for evening wear, and the core orange blossom-ginger-vanilla accord is a fair, recognisable match, even if the celebrated powdery finesse of the original iris note isn't fully present.
