Patchouli & Sandalwood

Unlike most of The Essence Vault's range, Patchouli & Sandalwood doesn't chase a top-to-base story so much as repeat its two core materials at every stage, and it works because both are strong, likeable notes on their own. Sandalwood carries the top and threads through the whole wear, giving a creamy, slightly sweet woodiness from the first spray. Patchouli joins in the heart and thickens through the base into an earthy, almost chocolatey richness, rounded out with a touch of amber and leather that add warmth without pushing the composition into gourmand territory. Because the pyramid barely shifts, this smells much the same an hour in as it does at application, which makes it a reliable, low-maintenance option rather than a fragrance built for dramatic evolution. Projection is moderate and settles to skin-close within an hour or two; longevity is respectable for the price but not all-day. It's a comfortable, grounded scent for cooler months - office-appropriate in reasonable doses, and warm enough to carry into evening without feeling like a completely different fragrance.
