Jacomo Paris
Sources highlight Mathieu’s work on Kenzo pour Homme as emblematic of early woody-marine perfumery, blending aquatic notes with woods in a style that became influential for 1990s masculine fragrances. His portfolio with brands like Givenchy, Hugo Boss and Laura Biagiotti shows a focus on fresh, airy masculine structures often built around marine, aromatic and woody accords.
Christian Mathieu (1946-2020) was a French perfumer who began his career at International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF), where he signed notable fragrances such as Jacomo pour Homme for Jacomo (1980) and Coeur de Parfum / Parfum Rare for Jacomo (1987). He later worked at Roure Bertrand Dupont, where he created Kenzo pour Homme (1991) for Kenzo, recognized by The Fragrance Foundation as a legendary woody-marine composition. Subsequently, Mathieu joined Takasago in Paris, composing scents including Insensé Ultramarine for Givenchy (1994), Venezia Uomo for Laura Biagiotti (1995), Elements Aqua for Hugo Boss (1996) and Individuality Earth for Jovan (2000).
