Toffee Caramel Creme
EDP · 2023
Juliet Rose
Atmospheric, story-led handmade perfumery: comforting gourmands and vanillas built on caramel, tonka and benzoin, and dark, theatrical woods and roses with frankincense, oud and cedar. Scents are meant to change the feel of the space around the wearer.
Juliet Rose is a British perfumer working in the south of England, and the maker of the handmade perfumes sold under her own name. She trained to a Masters degree level in fine art in London, and that work evolved into perfumery in 2009. No perfumery school or apprenticeship is documented, so none is claimed.
She sold her perfumes in Covent Garden until 2020, when she moved entirely online. Her stated aim is to activate the imagination, creating an immersive experience that alters the atmosphere of the space around the wearer. Fragrance databases list around twenty perfumes under her name, with releases dating from 2016 to 2025.
Her range is large and divided into gourmand, aquatic and fresh, vanilla, gothic, fruity and floral groups. The gourmands are the best known, from the creamy burnt-sugar custard of Crème Brûlée to the almond milk and vanilla of Snuggle Bug. Her vanillas include a boozy Tahitian vanilla with rum, leather and tobacco. The gothic scents are the most unusual: Lost in a Forest is a damp woodland of rosewood, cedar, vetiver, frankincense and oud, and Boleyn is a dark rose built from a Tudor pot pourri recipe.
The common thread is atmosphere and story rather than a house formula. Sweet comfort in the gourmands, historical and theatrical depth in the gothic woods, and a handmade, small-batch approach throughout.
