Lush
Known for highly narrative, emotionally driven fragrances within Lush, often tied to personal memories or social themes rather than conventional market briefs. His scents such as Karma and Dear John show a preference for bold, distinctive compositions that support Lush’s unconventional, ethical brand positioning and are integrated into both fine fragrances and scented body products.
Mark Constantine OBE, born in 1952 in Sutton, is a British fragrance entrepreneur, trichologist and co‑founder of Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics. After an early career as a hairdresser and formulator supplying Anita Roddick’s The Body Shop via his company Constantine & Weir, he and his wife Margaret (“Mo”) later founded Lush in Poole in 1995 with several former colleagues from their mail‑order venture Cosmetics To Go. Under his product and perfume leadership, Lush grew into a global ethical cosmetics retailer, and in 2011 Mark and Mo Constantine were appointed Officers of the Order of the British Empire for services to the beauty industry. As a perfumer, he has created personal, narrative scents for Lush such as Dear John, inspired by his relationship with his absent father, and Karma, one of the brand’s original and enduring fragrances, which he links to memories of working at an Elizabeth Arden store in London in the 1970s.
