Maurice Maurin

France Born 1936

Sources highlight Maurin’s use of green floral structures and pronounced blackcurrant bud effects, especially in Hermès Amazone. The fragrance layers crisp galbanum and narcissus over a vetiver and oakmoss base, showing his preference for structured, verdant compositions with clear woody-mossy backbones rather than heavy sweetness.

About

Maurice Maurin (1936-2013) was a French perfumer known for his work with Hermès and other houses. He composed Amazone for Hermès, released in 1974, a green floral fragrance built around blackcurrant buds, daffodils, narcissus, galbanum, red fruits and vetiver. He is also credited with Acteur for Azzaro and with Bogart and Vanilia, as documented by Fragrantica and Wikiparfum. Beyond composition, Maurin authored the book "La Sagesse du Créateur de Parfum" and worked with the olfactory research and creation firm Etudes & Diffusions Olfactives in Colombes, France, where he was listed as author of a technical text on perfumes and perfumery.
