G. Inglese
Italian sartorial house from Ginosa translating its tailoring heritage into limited-production Mediterranean niche perfumes.
G. Inglese is an Italian sartorial house founded by shirtmaker Gianni Inglese in 1955 in Ginosa, a historic town in the province of Taranto, Apulia in southern Italy. For decades the atelier has focused on handmade shirts and tailoring, with an emphasis on small-batch production and meticulous craftsmanship that remains rooted in its original Ginosa workshop.
The fragrance line grew out of this tailoring heritage, described by the brand as small-batch perfumes born in the same atelier and distilled with the same patience as its garments. The first collection, created with fragrance specialist Ania and composed by perfumer Arturetto Landi, comprises three essences inspired by the land of Ginosa and the authentic aromas of Southern Italy, including wild fig, sea-kissed capers, ginestra flowers and ancient roses. These scents are positioned as niche, limited-production extraits that reflect the brand’s focus on detail and material quality.
Genusia, an extrait de parfum crafted in Ginosa and released in a numbered edition of 150 bottles, exemplifies the line’s style: a quiet but persistent signature built around incense and soft spices in the top, an ancient rose heart, and a base of olive wood and amber. Presentation details such as handmade pochettes and sartorial finishing underscore the direct link between the house’s tailoring and its perfumery. Overall, G. Inglese fragrances lean into Mediterranean themes, artisanal execution and restrained elegance rather than mass-market volume, aligning them clearly with the niche segment of contemporary perfumery.
A niche, luxury house known for mediterranean compositions.
The house spent decades as a purely sartorial brand centered on handmade shirts and tailoring in Ginosa. Only recently has it extended that heritage into perfumery, using the same atelier and small-batch mindset for its fragrance production. Early releases are tightly focused around the local landscape and memories of Southern Italy, suggesting an evolution from purely clothing-based craftsmanship to a broader sensory expression of place and style. As the line grows, it is likely to expand on these Mediterranean themes while maintaining limited runs and a tailoring-led identity.
If you care as much about story and craftsmanship as you do about smell, G. Inglese is worth tracking down despite its limited reach. If you want a big catalog or easy availability, this will feel more like a niche curiosity than a core daily driver.
