L'Erbolario

L'Erbolario is an Italian brand founded in 1978 in the city of Lodi by Franco Bergamaschi and his wife, biologist and cosmetologist Daniela Villa. The company began as La Premiata Erboristeria Artigiana L’Erbolario, a small herbalist shop in Corso Archinti where the founders produced aromatic waters, bath oils and lotions based on long-tested family recipes. The brand name derives from the archaic Italian verb "erborare", referring to gathering herbs in the fields for study or therapeutic use, reflecting its roots in herbalism.

From the outset L'Erbolario focused on natural, plant-derived cosmetics, gradually expanding from simple herbal preparations to a wide catalogue of perfumes, body care and skincare products. Their fragrances are closely tied to botanical themes, often built around specific plants, flowers, fruits or woods that appear across matching ranges of shower gels, creams and home products. Production is carried out at their facility near Lodi, within the Adda Sud Natural Park, where they also cultivate medicinal plants such as marsh mallow, wormwood, marigold, tarragon, lavender, rosemary and sage for use as extracts and distillates.

Over time the company has grown from a local herbalist shop into a large player in Italy's plant-based cosmetics market with international distribution, while keeping its emphasis on botanicals and phyto-cosmetics. The fragrance line mirrors this evolution: accessible, nature-themed scents that are often offered in extensive bath and body collections rather than as standalone luxury perfumes.
