About Zurai

Zurai is a British independent perfume brand run by the self-taught perfumer Sam Macer. It was founded as Lux & Terra in 2019 and now trades as Zurai, selling four fragrances direct online. The founder describes it as the home for all personal creations and a place to build fantasy worlds to escape into.

Macer trained in chemistry, could not afford a professional perfumery school and decided to teach perfumery to themselves instead. Progress stalled in the pandemic, so the business was built in evenings and weekends beside a job in software. The founder now teaches others for free through a separate supplies shop and a YouTube channel, and Zurai is where the personal perfumes live. The brand's message is about following dreams and fighting for what you believe in.

Each perfume comes with a short fantasy story. Vanillawood follows a prince's quest for a casket of fabled vanilla wood in a jungle. Aquatica sends sea guardians to save a sacred cypress tree under the ocean, and By Virtue of Sunbeams is a tropical shoreline with a wizard studying sunlight. Moonlight Harvest follows an exiled ninja girl through golden wheat, cherries and honey in autumn. The scents cover woody vanilla with rum and honey, aquatic cypress, fresh grapefruit and mango, and fruity florals.

Zurai sits in independent, story-led perfumery: one maker, four scents, sold through its own website with 1.8ml samples. It suits wearers who like imaginative, easy-to-wear fragrances with a narrative, and anyone curious about a self-taught perfumer's work.
