Note Profile
Sicilian Cypress
Fresh, evergreen wood
Cypress has a fresh, resinous woody scent with crisp evergreen facets and subtle hints of spice. Its aroma is clean and slightly balsamic, evoking conifer forests and cool, shaded groves. The note can evolve from bright and airy to deeper, drier wood tones as it develops.
Cypress oil is primarily obtained from the branches, needles, and cones of Cupressus sempervirens, commonly grown in Mediterranean regions. The essential oil is extracted through steam distillation, preserving its volatile aromatic compounds.
Perfumers use cypress mainly as a heart or top note to impart freshness and structure in woody, aromatic, and fougère compositions. It blends well with citrus, lavender, vetiver, and other woods, providing lift and a naturalistic green character.
Perfumers known for using Cypress include Alberto Morillas , Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud , Nathalie Lorson , Roja Dove , Sonia Constant , and Antoine Maisondieu .
