Behini tree is a deep, strongly scented conifer wood, dry and woody through and through. Like its close relatives among the cypress woods, it carries a faint cooling, almost mentholic freshness and a light trace of amber resin underneath. Little else is clearly present beyond that woody core. It reads as a plain, dense wood note rather than a spiced or green one.

Origin
Behini Tree is the perfumery trade name for Chamaecyparis formosensis, a cypress endemic to Taiwan. It is also sold as Taiwan Red Hinoki or Benihi. It is a different species from Japanese hinoki, Chamaecyparis obtusa, which has its own note, `hinoki-wood`. Wikipedia records that 'the wood is soft, very resistant to decay, and strongly scented' and that 'essential oil distilled from its wood is uniquely scented and highly valued'. The material used in perfumery is the steam-distilled heartwood oil.
Usage in Perfumery
A woody note used for body rather than for lift. Attested 3 times on Fragrantica and absent from the Parfumo note list, so real usage is thin and no house style can be read off it. Rising Sun Botanicals sells the oil on its 'deep, pleasing woody aroma'.
