A Taiwanese conifer wood note. Both sources reached say the same one thing: the wood is strongly scented and the aroma is deep and woody. Nothing beyond that survives a second source, so the vector is one clear lead and a set of small, wide-spread cypress facets.

Scent Profile

Dry_woody leads and it is the only claim two sources make independently. Wikipedia calls the wood 'strongly scented' and Rising Sun Botanicals calls the oil 'deep, pleasing woody', so the facet is set high but held below hinoki-wood at 0.88, because neither source describes the smell beyond the word woody and hinoki-wood has five sources that do. Cooling_mentholic and amber_resinous are the two facets a Chamaecyparis heartwood distillate carries in every published sibling here, cypress-wood and hinoki-wood among them. Neither is stated for this species by a source that could be fetched, so both sit low with a 0.20 spread. They are not zeroed, because no source asserts their absence either. Fresh_spice, green and aromatic_herbal are the same kind of inference at a lower level.

Origin

Behini Tree is the perfumery trade name for Chamaecyparis formosensis, a cypress endemic to Taiwan. It is also sold as Taiwan Red Hinoki or Benihi. It is a different species from Japanese hinoki, Chamaecyparis obtusa, which this repository already publishes as `hinoki-wood`. Wikipedia records that 'the wood is soft, very resistant to decay, and strongly scented' and that 'essential oil distilled from its wood is uniquely scented and highly valued'. The material used in perfumery is the steam-distilled heartwood oil.

Usage in Perfumery

A woody note used for body rather than for lift. Attested 3 times on Fragrantica and absent from the Parfumo note list, so real usage is thin and no house style can be read off it. Rising Sun Botanicals sells the oil on its 'deep, pleasing woody aroma', which places it with the heartwood distillates rather than with the needle and twig oils.
