Scent Profile

Green leads because the material is foliage and both suppliers open on freshness. Eden Botanicals calls it 'very fresh, lively, diffusive' and names the 'elevating and clarifying aroma of juniper's evergreen leaves'. Dry woody is the 'pine-like' character plus the 'defined, warm, woody back note' Eden names and Shiva repeats as 'woody-sweet'. It is the facet that makes this a distillable oil rather than a green top note. Amber resinous is 'balsamic', which is the one word both sources use independently. Cooling mentholic is the fresh conifer lift. No source says camphoraceous, so it is scored as a supporting facet rather than the lead, unlike `cedar-leaf` where the sources do say it. Aromatic herbal comes from 'clarifying' and from the rosemary and sage blending partners. Sweet vanillic is Shiva's 'woody-sweet'. Fresh spice is held low on purpose: the gin-like pepper of the published `juniper` comes from the berries, and this oil is distilled without them.

Origin

Juniper Leaf oil is steam-distilled from the foliage and twigs of Juniperus communis, with no berries in the still. Eden Botanicals sells it as juniper leaf/branch and is explicit that leaving the berries out is what produces the character. Suppliers also use juniper needle and juniper twig for material that may be the same thing. No source found settles whether those terms name one material or several.

Usage in Perfumery

Used as a fresh evergreen opening and a forest accord component. Shiva Exports lists it as blending with sandalwood, rosemary, chamomile, bergamot, sage, geranium and eucalyptus, which is a herbal and woody company rather than a citrus one.
