About

Black fig is ripe fig fruit, not fig leaf. It smells sweet, creamy and jammy, with a milky softness carrying it and a dry warm wood underneath. The green sap that defines the plain Fig note shows only in the opening, and some versions leave it out. That reversal is the whole point of the term.

What is ScentArt?

Origin

A dark-skinned fig variety, sold in perfumery and candle work as a marketing term rather than as a distilled material. Two unrelated commercial lines were found using it, an Australian fragrance oil and Simone Andreoli's Fico Nero eau de parfum, and neither sells a raw 'black fig' oil. Both build it the same way: ripe fruit at the centre, a dairy material beside it (buttermilk in one, coconut milk in the other), and a sweet or woody base. Whether the fruit is a named varietal such as Black Mission, or just shorthand for a darker riper fig, could not be settled.

Usage in Perfumery

Used as a gourmand fruit heart. It is the fig for compositions that want comfort and richness rather than the cool Mediterranean greenness the plain Fig note gives. It pairs by habit with a milk or coconut material, and with vanilla, malt or warm wood in the base. Reach for plain Fig or Fig Leaf instead when the brief wants sap and shade.
