About
Bulgarian Rose Absolute is the solvent extract of Rosa damascena petals grown in the Kazanlak valley. It is the deep, red, spicy reading of rose rather than the fresh, transparent one that steam distillation gives. Against Turkish rose it is reported sweeter, with a pronounced apple and berry character and a soft resinous incense edge.
Scent Profile
Full-blown red rose, rich and deep rather than dewy, with a honeyed sweetness running through it and a clear warm spice that reviewers read as saffron or clove. Behind that sit stewed apple and berry fruit, a powdery softness, a soft resinous incense edge and a fresh green note that only appears in the drydown. A faint indole keeps it animal rather than clean.

Origin
Rosa damascena petals, hand picked at dawn in Bulgaria and solvent extracted from the concrete. It takes about 650 kilos of fresh petals to make 1 kilo of absolute. The material is a deep orange-red, pourable to slightly viscous liquid.
Usage in Perfumery
A heart note used at a fraction of a percent upward, and the rose of choice for oriental and attar work. It pairs with oud, tobacco, beeswax, hay and jasmine, rounds off harsh materials, and holds a floral heart together where an otto would evaporate out of it.
