About

Egyptian Jasmine Absolute is the solvent extract of Jasminum grandiflorum flowers grown in Egypt. Egypt has been a main source of perfumery jasmine since the second half of the 20th century. Against the other grandiflorum origins it is the deep, sunny, fruity one. It has a warm spicy facet, a honey and tea undertone and the warmth of indole. Grasse material is the greener reading of the same flower.

Voluptuous, heady white floral, deep and sunny rather than cool. A warm spice runs through it, faintly clove-like, with a honeyed sweetness and a tea-leaf undertone. Fruity notes recall jam and soft tropical fruit, with a creamy edge. Indole gives it warmth and a soft animal note.

Origin

Jasminum grandiflorum flowers are picked in Egypt from June to October or November. They are extracted with a volatile solvent to a concrete. The concrete is washed with alcohol to give the absolute. About 800 kg of flowers give 1 kg of absolute. The absolute is a deep orange-red liquid that turns reddish-brown with age.

Usage in Perfumery

A heart note and a blend unifier. Perfumers use it to hold a floral accord together, to embolden other flowers, and to set against woody, spicy or green materials for contrast. It is very strong. A typical dose is 0.25% of a perfume compound, and IFRA limits it to 0.6% of a finished fine fragrance.
