Origin
Not a natural smell. The source is direct about it: what Westerners read as clean is 'the smell of specific synthetic molecules - polycyclic musks (Galaxolide, Tonalide), aldehydes, and white florals - that became associated with cleanliness through their widespread use in laundry detergents and soaps from the 1960s onward'. Other places code cleanliness differently, with hinoki in Japan and sandalwood and camphor in India. That is a fact about people, not about the accord, so it is recorded here and not scored.
Usage in Perfumery
A category and a base-note foundation at the same time. Perfumers build it from Galaxolide and Tonalide, aldehydes C-11 and C-12, hedione and muguet material, and use it to make anything sit smoother and read as inoffensive.
