About

Bright, aldehydic incense resin

Scent Profile

Mystikal smells of incense resin, like frankincense and myrrh, but lighter and brighter than burning resin. A sparkling, aldehydic edge and a lemony, elemi-like lift sit on top of the resin. Behind it there is a soft powdery orris and a faint musky ambrette quality, with a thin wisp of smoke and a dry woody base.

Origin

Mystikal is a captive synthetic molecule made by Givaudan to give an incense character. Its structure is not confirmed: sources give different CAS numbers, so none is linked.

Usage in Perfumery

Perfumers use it to build an incense facet in finished fragrances. Givaudan says the smoky incense facet of Azzaro Wanted Absolu is centred on it.
