Coconut orchid is Maxillaria tenuifolia, a small epiphytic orchid. It is grown for its flowers, which smell strongly of coconut. It is also called the coconut pie orchid.

Scent Profile

Coconut Orchid smells of fresh coconut, sweet and creamy. A soft, milky body sits under the coconut. Growers compare the flower to a pina colada, so a light pineapple fruitiness comes with it. A soft floral side sits behind the coconut, with a faint nutty edge.

Maxillaria tenuifolia grows wild from Mexico to Nicaragua, and possibly Costa Rica. It flowers in spring, in March and April in cultivation. The scent comes off the live flower and can fill a room. No absolute, essential oil or headspace reconstruction sold under this name was found. So in a perfume the note is taken to be an accord, not an extract.

Parfumo lists 21 perfumes with this note on 2026-10-10, released from 2009 to 2026. Most come from mass-market and body-care brands, such as Victoria's Secret, Bath & Body Works and Jennifer Lopez. Parfumo files it with the floral notes and finds it most often in the heart. No dose rate was found.
