About

Dynamone is a Biolandes speciality extract made from cistus concrete, so it is a labdanum material. CAS 8016-26-0. It is processed to push the amber character towards mineral, metallic and church-incense facets instead of the sweeter balsamic profile of a plain labdanum absolute.

Scent Profile

Dynamone smells like labdanum pushed towards stone rather than sugar, an amber resinous base with a mineral, metallic edge, close to flint. A church-incense smoke sits over it, drier than burnt wood. A faint leather quality and a dry, woody undercurrent run through it, with a trace of animal warmth. Sweetness and honeyed balsam stay in the background.

Origin

Made by Biolandes from the leaf and stem of Cistus ladanifer, worked up from cistus concrete. Biolandes files it under the olfactive family Ambery. ScenTree files it under Balsamic Ambery, on the branch Ambery Cistus > Animalic > Smoky Woods.

Usage in Perfumery

Used to build leather bases in company with amber notes, and to give an oriental accord a dark, flinty edge. ScenTree describes its job as bringing out ambery and mineral notes. Biolandes says it is rarely used in cosmetics. The terpenes in the extract can polymerise on oxidation, so it needs care in storage.
