Feathers is a fantasy accord. It smells of a down pillow held to the face: dry, warm and powdery, with a faint animal-skin whisper under it. No feather extract exists. The note is built from powdery-warm materials, and it is drier and lighter than musk, civet, castoreum, fur or leather.

Scent Profile

Powdery leads, and it is the facet the source returns to in every paragraph: dusty keratin softness, a warm powdery residue on bedding, the inside of a down pillow. Clean_musk is the second pillar and it is named in the recipe itself, where clean musks supply the intimacy. It is set below the published suede note's 0.50-plus musk only slightly because both notes are built on the same soft-skin register. Animalic is the whisper, and is the deliberate ceiling: the source invokes musk, civet and castoreum three times only to place feathers below all of them, and the animalic material in the recipe is present as 'costus root traces' or 'micro-doses of indole'. Origin

Entirely compounded. Cashmeran gives the textile softness, heliotropin the powdery warmth, and clean musks the intimacy. The animalic thread that separates it from a plain powder accord comes from traces of costus root or micro-doses of indole. Real bird plumage was studied for its odour once, in crimson rosellas, and a researcher on that work said the feathers smell 'like an old jumper drenched in really cheap and old perfume'.

Usage in Perfumery

Used as atmospheric warmth. It makes a composition feel lived-in and physically warm without adding sweetness or weight. It pairs with cashmere accords, clean skin musks and soft florals. Four Fragrantica placements are recorded, and Fragrantica files it under musk, amber and animalic smells.
