Note Profile
Gasoline in perfumery is characterised by a sharp, volatile aroma with metallic, oily, and slightly sweet undertones. It has a distinctive industrial quality, often evoking associations with rubber, tar, and faint citrus or floral nuances as it dissipates. The scent is highly diffusive and can impart a sense of urban or mechanical atmosphere.
Gasoline itself is not used directly in perfumery; instead, its scent is recreated using synthetic molecules such as alkylbenzenes, aldehydes, and certain nitromusks. These compounds are produced in laboratories to safely evoke the characteristic aroma without the hazards of actual fuel.
Perfumers employ gasoline notes sparingly, typically as an accent in avant-garde or conceptual fragrances. It is most often used in the heart or base to introduce an edgy, unconventional twist, blending well with leather, smoke, and woody accords to create a modern, urban effect.
