Scent Profile

Fruity and sweet_vanillic together are the note: 'sweet, jammy', a 'bright fruity-candy top' settling into a 'syrupy-jam heart'. Honeyed carries the caramellic side, which is well supported because the lead material has its own literature - Scentspiracy lists ethyl maltol as 'cotton candy, caramel, jammy strawberry, toasted sugar' and quotes Mosciano's 1991 descriptor 'sweet, burnt cotton sugar candy like, with jammy, strawberry notes'. Lactonic is gamma-undecalactone, and it is scored with a caveat the source itself supplies: the lactone is there for 'the gelled-texture mouthfeel', which is a texture claim rather than an odour one. It is kept because the same molecule reads as peach or milky fruit on its own, so it does contribute a smell, but it is the weakest of the four named facets.

Origin

Not extracted from anything. Pectin, the gelling agent, is nearly odourless, so the accord is entirely the fruit syrup the pectin holds. Première Peau names the build: ethyl maltol for candy-sweet warmth, furaneol (CAS 3658-77-3) for strawberry-caramel jam, gamma-undecalactone for the gelled-texture body, methyl 2-methylbutyrate for the ripe-fruit ester top, and vanillin for rounding. The fruit reference chosen decides the lead ester - strawberry takes ethyl methylphenylglycidate, raspberry takes raspberry ketone, cherry takes benzaldehyde with tonka.

Usage in Perfumery

Heart to base of gummy and candy-themed compositions, at medium odour strength. It pairs with red-fruit reconstructions, with vanilla and ethyl maltol, and with confectionery references such as marshmallow and candy floss.
