Keemun is a Chinese black tea from Qimen county, Anhui. It is the only black tea whose aroma has its own name in the literature: a peer-reviewed study calls the honey-like, flowery, fruity signature 'Keemun aroma' because it is specific to this origin.

Scent Profile

Keemun tea has a honey-like, flowery aroma close to rose and orchid, the trait that gives this black tea its own name. Cocoa runs through it too, giving it a chocolate depth. The cured tea leaf sits underneath, light rather than astringent, with a stone-fruit sweetness and a whisper of smoke. A honeyed warmth ties the whole cup together.

Origin

Camellia sinensis grown in Qimen (Keemun) county, Anhui province, China, and made as a congou black tea. The aroma comes from the withering and fermentation steps rather than from the cultivar alone, which is what the manufacturing study set out to show.

Used as a tea note in the heart or base of oriental, amber and tea-themed compositions. Attested once each on Fragrantica and Parfumo, across one brand.
